Lake District Dreams

Have you ever wanted to visit scenic and idyllic, almost dreamy landscapes? Do you like the thought of freeing your mind in a breath-taking countryside amidst beautiful mountains and surrounding wooded hills and valleys? And not only mountains but also lakes and coasts just in front of your door? Well – visiting Wales sounds like a perfect plan then. And to be even more specific: Let’s talk about North and Mid Wales. There is an area, known as the Welsh Lake District. Some of its unique characteristics include dramatic sceneries with high mountains, deep valleys, fast flowing streams, rivers and even waterfalls – and, as its name might suggest, lakes. Many picturesque, capture-worthy lakes, asking to be painted or photographed! The main lakes include Bala Lake (Llyn Tegid), Lake Vyrnwy (Llyn Efyrnwy), Llyn Celyn and Llyn Brenig and the main mountain ranges are Aran, Arenig and Berwyn, all being breathtakingly beautiful with an untouched-nature-atmosphere. Just amidst the awe-inspiring Berwyn Mountains lies the pleasant village Llangynog, a perfect place to stay when you want to experience the Welsh mountain- and valley-widths, flourishing nature and forests and idyllic lakes.

In Llangynog there is an outstanding place to stay: Pengwern Cottage – a scenic place with absolutely stunning views just right outside the door and from every room. The huge old stone-built farmhouse has maintained its antiquated character but is equipped with all mod cons. There even is a full-size snooker room with an entertaining area that is usable all year around. The very large kitchen diner has a full patio window overlooking some great views if it were rainy, but contrary to what people think there actually is a lot of sunshine in Wales. So it also appropriate to visit the surroundings. The coast is 1 hour drive away, a little further is the Llyn Peninsula which has particularly beautiful coastline. But the delightful Llangynog farm-house is an ideal base from which to explore all of Mid and North Wales anyway, including Lakes Bala and Vyrnwy, the towns of Oswestry, Welshpool, Shrewsbury, Llangollen and the historic city of Chester, which are all worth a visit. Or go take a walk over the mountain to visit the stunning Pistyll Rhaeadr waterfall, the tallest in Wales. It is only a 3 mile walk as the crow flies, or 10 miles by road. The possibilities are endless, but all of them include the picture-perfect width of the Welsh charismatic atmosphere, whether you enjoy scenic walking and bike trails leading right from the doorstep or relax at either two of the pubs in the main village which is a 15 minute stroll door to door. Pengwern Cottage has 7 bedrooms within the master suite, two of them with en-suite bathrooms. There is a dining room and, next to the snooker-room, an atmospheric sitting room with a wood-burning stove and the patio is ideal for wining and dining in the sunshine, or simply absorbing the wonderful sights and tranquil ambiance.
