Medieval flair and luxury: Castello di Petroia
Castello di Petroia is a charming medieval castle, located in the middle of a private 500 acres estate in the beautiful region of Umbria, Gubbio (Italy). There are a lot of painters who visit the castle during the entire year, so Castello di Petroia offers many possibilities to organize painting courses.
Each of the castle’s 15 bedrooms features an ensuite bathroom. Some of them are even armed with a Jacuzzi. Personalized lunches or dinners will be organized for you, so you don’t have to eat à la carte.
Outside the castle, there are manifold spaces where you can paint or sketch. In case of rain, you can either work on the open covered terrace settle on the second floor or in the Guidubaldo Hall, which is a very nice and cozy living room.
Besides painting and sketching, you can participate in many other great events at Castello di Petroia: e.g. there is a medieval dinner, an Astronomical event, truffle hunting, a cooking class, a chocolate lesson or you can go horseback riding. Special wine tastings in wineries with a pick-up from the castle can also be arranged. These activities are also perfect for non-painting partners.
The closest located city is Gubbio, 14 km away from Castello di Petroia. While staying at the castle, you can reach Gubbio by car, taxi or minibus. The castele’s staff will help you to plan your transfer, since they are collaborating with a good taxi company in Gubbio. If you wish, you can also participate in a guided tour of the city.
The airport, which is closest located to the castle, is called “San Francesco d’Assisi in Perugia”. It takes a 20 minute drive to get from the airport to Castello di Petroia. The closest train station is in Perugia and it takes a 30 minute drive to get there.
Within a 10 minute drive from the castle, you can reach 3-4 restaurants. This allows you to go out for dinner during the week.
