The so-called Ragging-technique has one thing in common with Tonking: paint is being removed from the canvas. If the paint has not completely dried out yet, you can mix individual areas by using a rag. So the Ragging-technique is especially suited for creating larger areas or concolorous backgrounds. Plus you can put the removed paint back on other areas of the painting.
