First, you should put some shadows onto the shape of the stem so that it reaches a vivid effect. Even though the tree might still be leafy, you can recognise a few branches between the dense leafy areas. These areas should be modelled three-dimensionally, before the leaves are being dabbed on with a brush and thick paint in diverse green shades.
