A Year in the Life Of...
A couple of days ago, Carolin, Sebastian and I met for dinner. This is something we like to do, at a local pizza place, and we eat, and we laugh, and we talk. About our lives, our families, about art. This inevitably leads to talk about work, and this evening was no exception.
Sebastian said, “Do you remember the first time we met, here, to talk about starting artistravel international?” We nodded. Of course we remembered. “How long ago was that?”
We looked at each other and realized: A year ago.
A whole year. It’s hard to believe it’s been that long! So what did we do, exactly, in the past year?
Welcome to the jungle – where are the gems?
Carolin remembers. “When Sebastian first approached me with the idea of developing a portal for English speaking courses, I was stoked. The idea of offering art breaks and holidays in Europe, emphasizing the 100 best, sounded so exciting.” She shrugs. “That’s how artistravel international started – as a small international project within artistravel.”
When we began researching the Top 100, it quickly became apparent that we would need way more time than we had originally planned. There were so many websites, so many tutors in so many different fields, we felt lost in a jungle of opportunities.
Slowly, favorites began to emerge: artists that stood out, locations that excited us, courses that sounded fun to take.
Who are you again?
At first, feelings towards us were … mixed. A portal for art courses, free of charge? It sounded too good to be true. Some tutors welcomed us with open arms, others were skeptical. (Some even refused to work with us altogether. No, we don’t get it, either.)
Happily, most tutors were excited about our service. And slowly, word is getting out: Tutors, hotels and artist communities want to be part of our offer.
Join us on our journey
With a base of around 70 tutors and a program containing a variety of courses, we’re pretty proud of our work in the past year. And we’re not done yet. We are continuing to extend our offer to cover the whole of Europe, learning every step of the way. Working on improving and helping wherever we can.
We can’t do this on our own. We are grateful to have such a great team of tutors, partners, and friends behind us.
And there’s always room for more.
